Art Gallery Web Design Silver K Gallery is an Art Gallery based in Melbourne, Australia that specialises in Rock n Roll and animation art. They have been in the same location for 30 years so their reputation is enviable as is the quantity of artwork that they have available. Due to the huge range of art they have in stock (in excess of 9,000 pieces) the owner decided to split the website in two. The main section of the website is an older html based website that reflects the animation art and pop culture side of the art whilst the new website Explainafide has designed encompasses the Rock N Roll side of the gallery. Photography Web Design

Photographycs: Web Design for Photographers Photographer Chelsea Sipthorp required a completely new website design after changing from a full Flash enabled site to one that is more user friendly. Photographycs has a huge portfolio of photographs in a varied and wide ranging collection. This presented multiple hurdles as having 9 separate categories with 10 different slideshows created some technical issues.  We have also created a great tool that utilises the latest technologies to create an online Album so people can view their wedding photographs online as though they are flipping through a book. Technically difficult but it certainly adds some spark to an already beautiful website. I'd love to know what you think of the website. … [Read more...]

Video Architecture

video-architecture

Website Design for Video Producers Jim Coad is a Castlemaine based video producer who projects video installation art onto buildings. In a nut shell Jim films an artist painting a canvas on a typical easel and in real time projects this art onto a building. A brush stroke a foot long  can appear to be painting a 2 story building in any colour imaginable. It really is something to behold and really makes an impact at exhibition openings and events. In terms of the Video Architecture website we thought having a dark grey background would be best to showcase his amazing projection art. The website itself is fairly simple but when you have such an interesting subject, anything that distracts the eye away from the videos is not … [Read more...]

Poet: Cheung-Ling Wong

poetry-website-design

Website Design for Poets Cheung-Ling Wong is a Melbourne based poet that has just published a beautiful leather bound book of his poetry. His poetry is currently available through Readings bookstores in Hawthorn and is a work of art on its own. Soft padded and PU leather bound with gilded page edges, complete with colourful* endpapers and silkened bookmark ribbon, the book harks back to a time when books were to be cherished forever. It goes without saying that Cheung-Ling demanded high standards from his website. The website design we came up with captures the mood of his poetry and pays homage to his Chinese background. www.cheunglingwong.com *End papers are a pattern used at the beginning two pages and the end two pages of a … [Read more...]

Artist Jan Palethorpe

artist-jan-palethorpe-web-design

Artist Jan Palethorpe's Website Design Jan is such a vibrant character that she had to have a riotous website to match her personality. Initially I designed a website that was more typical of many artists I deal with- minimalist and stark- however the night I completed the draft I woke at 3am and threw the minimalist website in the digital bin. Shortly after that I began creating a site that more summed Jan up- fun, colourful and cheeky.  Her art is varied and broad, over a long career and as such took a little while just to cut her portfolio down to a manageable size. CDs, USB sticks and printed photographers were trawled through to get the best images and to try and remember which exhibition the art came from and what the titles of … [Read more...]

Artist David Waters

Minimalist Web Design David Waters: Sculptor To say David Water's wanted a minimalist web design is an understatement. In fact we had a few discussions based on the fact that we need to have words somewhere on the website! To put it in perspective David has been exhibiting all over Australia for the best part of 15 years and some of the names of his exhibitions are: Interaction, Domain, Roof, Tarpaulin, Gallery- you get the idea. David is a master of understatement: quiet in person, yet once you get to know him a cheek that seems to come out of nowhere and that comes across in his art. Who else creates such beautiful art from Foam, Concrete or Mud? … [Read more...]

Maria Coyle Sculptor

Web Design for Sculptors Maria Coyle is a local Castlemaine Sculptor who creates beautiful artwork focusing on Mothers and their relationship with their children, lovers and children playing. You may have seen her work displayed throughout Australia, in private collections, corporate commissions and galleries. When designing Maria's web site, we adopted a simple black background, slide shows that showcase her amazing work and a traditional script as a logo. The only issue I've had with Maria's website is now my wife keeps dropping hints that I need to start saving for a Christmas present! Her work speaks for itself and is simply beautiful. Ranthems: Lyrical Poetry

ranthems-screen-shot

Ranthems: Lyrical Poetry Web Design Lyrical Writer Garry McAliece was looking for a website to showcase his poems as well as a site to house his upcoming e-book (also being published by Explainafide.) Garry’s requirements were an eye catching website that could be updated via his iPhone with easy integration with Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites. The poetry web design makes great use of his love of the urban streetscape and his roots firmly planted in the Heavy Metal ethos. The site is dark, yet I've tried to make it as inviting as possible. I'd love to know what you think... Explainafide: We have the patience to design websites for Poets! … [Read more...]
