Copywriting for a website
The main content of your website will be the copywriting. And keeping people interested is the single most important function of the content. Finding a happy medium between informative text and an interesting read is not always easy. The most complicating factor with copywriting for the web is that if a potential client is not immediately interested they are just one click away from leaving.
So how do you balance the two?
LENGTH OF TEXT IS VERY IMPORTANT IN COPYWRITING FOR THE WEB
Too long and they are bored before they even begin, after all it can be better spent playing Solitaire. A potential client can be gone forever with one click of a mouse.
Get to the point quickly and concisely.
However, even a short blurb is no good if it’s not understandable. Make sure visitors get your meaning on the first read, if they have to think about it, you’ve lost your audience.
BACK UP YOUR CLAIMS
A persuasive text is not enough in the cyber world, they’ve read it all before. You need evidence to reinforce your text.
You must constantly reinforce the reason for the client to be there.
DO NOT WAFFLE
You can’t please everyone. Concentrate on your core audience and keep their needs and interests in mind constantly. Don’t waste time and space trying to entice an ambivalent audience.
In copywriting for the web, don’t over embellish. Chances are web readers are well versed in recognising hype. Make your entries interesting and believable but not excessive.
YOU WOULDN’T DO YOUR OWN PRESS RELEASE, SO WHY WOULD YOU DO YOUR OWN WEB COPY?
Less Waffle- good for your business & your waistline.
