Where We Are… Castlemaine

Our office is located in the centre of Castlemaine, down an alley and above a book shop. The communal common area doubles as an art gallery (CASPA) that houses works by some of Castlemaine’s very talented artists. So if you come to visit us you will be entertained, whether it’s by our ever witty staff or by current exhibitions of rotating artists.

For those who don’t know, Castlemaine is about 130kms north of Melbourne along the Calder Highway, about 30km before Bendigo. It is in the heart of the golden triangle, named because it was the largest gold producing region of Australia during the 1850-1860s. As a result of the huge amount of gold pulled out of this area there are an abundance of beautiful historical buildings and houses, some magnificently restored and others left to age gracefully, if not somewhat creakily. However if a trip to our hometown is not on the cards, we travel to Melbourne weekly for meetings and to keep abreast of what’s happening in the real world. We are more than happy to meet at your workplace. We are even willing to travel overseas (if you provide 2 first class airfares). Ideally these overseas meetings would be somewhere we would like to visit- Paris, Bucharest, or even New York would be nice.

Here’s some of the things that will be keeping us occupied in the next few months.

The Theatre Royal of Castlemaine has been a feature of these parts since 1856, showing cabaret, bands, movies and even the AFL grand final. Sarah Blasko, Cat Power, Archer, and Mental as Anything have all played recently. Apparently they even play Movies.

The Castlemaine State Festival is over for another year. Between April 1st- April 10th thousands of posers, pouters, and chin strokers descended upon the town for 10 days of art, music, storytelling and glimpses into the world of the weird and wonderful.

The petrol station ran out of petrol, cafes ran out of food and the pub almost ran out of beer. To say it was busy is an understatement.
